Tarangire, 2

Our Sopa lodge is located in the north central area of the park. It is extremely comfortable and intimate even though there are more than 70 rooms. Meals at the Tarangire Sopa are buffet style with lots of choices: juices, meats, breads, cheeses, fruits, vegetables, coffee, tea, rice or pasta. They served us lunch poolside. Starlings always surrounded us, not ordinary starlings, but superb starlings radiant with their luminescent colors. During the dry months the concentration of animals around the Tarangire  river is diverse and reliable. Elephants are the main attraction with up to 3,000 in the park during the peak season months. Tarangire is also one of Tanzania’s prime birding destinations with over 400 species in the park. The weather is warm, especially in the hours after noon, but we were always up at the crack of dawn to view animal behavior in the cool morning hours. Despite dust and so many road bumps, our guides always treated us to more surprises right around the corner. One moment we were literally surrounded by hundreds of elephants, a 360º view of elephants of all sizes and congregating in their usual family and social groups.
